Workshops

Beyond storytelling, technical skills and the ability to communicate meaning through photography are more important than ever. Photography is not just about cameras or beautiful images — it is a reflection of knowledge, life experience, and personal voice.

with Edy Purnomo

In this intimate workshop, Edy Purnomo invites participants to reopen their “memory drawers” — revisiting personal digital photo archives that are often forgotten. With warm, thoughtful guidance, participants are asked to print their photos as a starting point for reflection. Together, we’ll explore how images shape the way we see, feel, and tell stories—turning memories into meaningful visual expressions.

Edy Purnomo actively mentors the next generation of Indonesian photographers through various workshops and joined World Press Photo’s Training for Trainers in Amsterdam (2006). He curates photography exhibitions, including PH Museum’s Errratic Dream (2020) and Rekam Jakarta (2023). A photo book editor for many institutions, Edy began as a stringer for AFP and Getty, with works featured in TIME, Newsweek, and National Geographic Indonesia. He published PASSING (2012), a collection from 14 years of work, and Wildtopia (2018), exploring the strange realities of modern zoos.

with Beawiharta & Fujifilm

From Headlines to Heartlines is a photography and visual storytelling workshop led by renowned photojournalist Beawiharta. With over 25 years of experience, he guides participants to reflect on their projects with clarity and purpose—showing how personal stories can engage with broader social and political realities. Through open discussions and hands-on exploration, the workshop helps participants craft meaningful visual narratives. It also serves as a prelude to his public talk, The Personal is Political, where photography becomes both personal expression and political statement.

Beawiharta is an Indonesian photographer and visual storyteller. After 30 years with Reuters, he now focuses on photo books and social media documentaries for brands like Xiaomi, UNICEF Indonesia, and Fujifilm. He has covered key events across Southeast Asia and sees photography as a way to understand the world and amplify unheard voices. His latest book, UNBREAKABLE, was published in 2023.

with Jordy Wahyudiningrat, Film Photography Club

For FOTO Bali Festival, Film Photography Club Bali will present a live, on-site portable darkroom experience, offering participants the opportunity to directly engage with the fundamentals of analog photography. This workshop will cover the basics of shooting with film, developing negatives, and understanding the full cycle of the analog process. By bringing the darkroom into a public setting, this session invites participants to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with the tactile nature of image-making — celebrating photography as both craft and ritual.

Film Photography Club Bali is a community-based collective and analog photography initiative based at Tegal Temu Space in Batubulan, Gianyar, Bali. They focus on preserving and cultivating the practice of film photography by offering access to a fully functional darkroom and hands-on learning experiences. Their mission is to bridge the gap between the past and future of image-making through analog processes.

Jordy Wahyudiningrat is the founder of Film Photography Club and a lifelong analog enthusiast. Born into a family of photographers in Kerinci, Jambi, Jordy found his creative path through film. After studying music in Yogyakarta, he moved to Bali in 2019, diving deeper into analog photography and co-founding Tjoetji Film Lab. In 2024, he launched Film Photography Club—a vibrant community space for darkroom practices, workshops, and sharing the joy of film photography with others.
